ARHS has collaborated with Bowser Manufacturing to produce an exclusive run of HO-scale, Lehigh & New England, 70-ton capacity covered hoppers (cement cars). The L&NE was an early adopter of covered hoppers for carrying bulk cement. With a roster of nearly 1,100 covered hoppers, L&NE cars could be seen far from the cement belt region of Eastern Pennsylvania. The prototype order of thirty-five cars (12666-12700) was built in May 1950 by Bethlehem Steel and represented the smallest order from the four builders (American Car and Foundry, Bethlehem Steel, Greenville, and Pullman-Standard) L&NE purchased covered hoppers from.
Bowser’s model features an accurately decorated injection molded body with all detail parts painted and ready for assembly. The car has eight roof hatches, a straight sill design, with no side panel cut outs - unique features compared to other covered hoppers from ACF, Greenville, and Pullman-Standard. Providing this car as a kit enables ARHS to keep the price competitive ($22.50 + shipping) relative to similar detailed fully assembled HO-scale freight car models. ARHS has purchased fifty (each) of six numbers for immediate shipment: 12674, 12678, 12683, 12688, 12695, and 12698. Road numbers can be specified at the point of ordering.
